We are a foundation with more than 80 years, dedicated to weaving homes for low-income Colombian families.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

We have a comprehensive, respectful and humanitarian model, based on three strategies that allow families to transform their lives through a decent housing solution and opportunities for growth and training. With this we seek to contribute to the construction of homes that generate social fabric.

OUR STRATEGIES

  • Sustainable Habitat: personalized accompaniment for each family to achieve a real and dignified housing solutions in healthy environments. Through donations, personalized soft loans, guidance to obtain subsidies and legal support, which allows families to improve or acquire their own home.
  • School for Life: a comprehensive training and support process that seeks personal, family and community development of our beneficiaries, in order to improve their involvement and generate social fabric.
  • Positive Economy: generation of positive habits in the family economy, through workshops and seminars, as well as opportunities for training in arts and crafts that allow families to earn an extra income.

OUR HISTORY

THE FOUNDATION IS BORN

1944

Lucrecia Jaramillo and a group of friends met to weave, embroider and sew, with the fruits of their hands and their stitches they created a fund to provide housing solutions to the families that needed it most, giving rise to the foundation – Apostolado La Aguja.

BEGINNINGS OF THE FOUNDATION

1950

During the first years of the foundation, Lucrecia Jaramillo and her husband, José María Bernal Bernal, built and gave houses to hundreds of families in Medellín and La Ceja (Antioquia).

MICROCREDIT MODALITY

1960

In the 1960s, seeking to generate a greater social impact and avoid welfare, they decided to implement a model that combines donations with personalized soft loans, adjusted to the circumstances of each household, thus generating revolving funds, which allow supporting several families consecutively with the same means. This model continues in force, with excellent results.

ALLIANCES WITH MUNICIPALITIES

2000

José María Bernal Jaramillo, son of the founders, as General Director implemented alliances with some municipal administrations, among them the Municipality of Don Matías, Vegachí, Rionegro and El Retiro, among others.

INTEGRAL INTERVENTION MODEL

2005

María Adelaida Bernal Pérez, granddaughter of the founders, as General Director implemented a comprehensive support model that provides tools and accompaniment for the construction of a home inside the houses, as a complement to the housing solution.

REVOLVING FUNDS

2008

Alliances are stablished with companies for the creation of Revolving Funds that have allowed to expand coverage to support more families throughout the country.

INTEGRAL PROJECT URABÁ

2010

We are present in Urabá, where we have been since then in alliance with different foundations and private companies, working to promote the permanence of people in the countryside, avoiding displacement to cities and strengthening their roots and their own culture.

INNOVATION, RELATIONSHIP AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

2019

With the leadership of Rosario Gutiérrez Bernal, great-granddaughter of the founders, we ventured into innovation, new relationship approaches and International Cooperation in order to generate alliances.
